Anyone can use VolunteerWashtenaw to find a volunteer position, but if you're 55 or over, there's a program to support you in your volunteer work.

The RSVP program provides:

  • supplemental accident and liability insurance
  • assistance with travel
  • information about training and volunteer opportunities
  • help with finding the right opportunity for you
  • invitations to fun recognition events

Helping Entrepreneurs Get Their Start
“What we're doing essentially is to help southeast Michigan create jobs.” -- Sherry Marcy

Sherry Marcy couldn't be more excited about her volunteer job. “It's fun to work with young people with good energy,” she says, “it helps create jobs in Michigan, and it feels worthwhile.” Through a variety of organizations, Sherry and other former executives work individually or in teams mentoring new entrepreneurs and helping startups find their footing. Ultimately, their work helps these businesses become successful and means new jobs for the area.

Governor Honors Local Volunteer
“People will miss the best part of their life if they don’t do volunteer work.” -- Bill Yaeger

  Governor Granholm with Catholic Social Services Volunteer Bill Yaeger

Governor Jennifer Granholm recently named Catholic Social Services of Washtenaw County (CSSW) volunteer Bill Yaeger as Michigan’s Senior Volunteer of the Year for his outstanding work with the Medicare/ Medicaid Assistance program. Yaeger was presented the State’s highest honor for volunteerism at a celebration held at the Governor’s residence on June 18, 2009.
